So you've decided that filling the minds of the youth is your calling? That's great! The world is always looking for great Professors. Before you begin handing out House Points and Homework assignments though, there is a little bit of information we need to cover.
This is probably the most important step. A well organized classroom will make your teaching experience here much more smooth. Inside your classroom you will find several sub-boards. The first is titled "Welcome". Here you should make threads and posts outlining your classroom. Include information such as an overview of what your subject or class is about, a syllabus for each year, the standardized grading scale, and any other important information about your class. The second is titled "Student Registry". Here you should outline any guidelines you have for how students should sign up for your class. The third is titled "Grades". Here you should list each students grades from homework and exams. This will serve as a record for you and for Headmistress Zeda to determine if a student has passed your class or not. Note, students need to maintain a 70% passing rate across homework and exams in order to pass your class.
There are three things to remember about creating a lesson. First and foremost, Hogwarts is set as a 'higher education' style of learning. Meaning that we can expect the lessons to be more detailed, and a little more difficult than the ones that could be found in traditional Hogwarts style. Be creative and have fun creating your lessons. A lot of these subject do not have a plethora of information available on the topics. This means it's up to your creative brain to add in all the extra information. We do ask that you try to keep it true to the established Harry Potter world guidelines.
Secondly, it is important to title your lessons correctly. When creating a thread for your lesson, you will have two boxes to fill out. The first is the "Subject" line. This should be the title of your lesson. The second is the "Description" line. This is where you will put the lesson's Week and number information. For example:
Subject: Introduction to Potions
Description: Week 1 / Lesson 1
Following that guideline will ensure that your students can find the correct lesson, or view past lessons correctly. Please leave ALL of your lessons up for the entire term as the administrative staff will use these to archive your lessons in the Study Hall for your class.
Lastly, New lessons are to be posted no later than Monday of each week, and homework is to be due no later than Saturday of each week. This ensures that you, our Professors, don't get burnt out on lessons. And our students have plenty of time to complete their work.
Students will submit their homework to you in a personal message within our site. When you receive the homework it is important that you send a message back to the student that you have received it. This serves as a fail safe. Modern Technology is wonderful, but sometimes things happen and messages get lost in cyber-limbo somewhere. Replying and letting them know you have received their homework, ensures that the student isn't sending it multiple times and filling up your inbox.
Once you have graded the homework, you need to post that grade in the Grades section of your classroom. The post should also include how many house points were awarded. For Exaple:
John Smith - First Year / Gryffindor
Week 1 / Lesson 1 - O =20 House Points.
Week 2 / Lesson 2 - A =5 House Points
Week 3 / Lesson 3 - P = - 5 House Points
How you choose to organize this is up to you. On Sunday of every week, Headmistress Zeda will overview your grades section and adjust House Points accordingly. Please be sure to leave up each weeks grade until the end of term.
